PEAS COME TO TABLE

August 6th – October 9th, 2022

Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, Mt. Vernon, Illinois

Andrew Saftel will be featured in an exhibit at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The show will open Aug. 6th and run through the first week of Oct. Named for one of Saftel’s most recent works (which is featured in the exhibit) “Peas Come To Table” is a phrase from Thomas Jefferson’s farm book, and is written in his handwriting on the painting.

Said Saftel, “Jefferson kept meticulous notes in his farm log and his entry from May 23rd says, Peas Come To Table. I downloaded it from the Massachusetts Historical Society in Boston. Last Fall, I visited Jefferson’s Poplar Forest home in Bedford, Virginia. He built it as a retirement home and I was inspired to make a painting about it. There will be 19 pieces in this exhibition; paintings on panel, works on paper, one tapestry and one wall construction.”
